Drone Testing

Welcome to AB MSAI RESEARCH LABS (MR Lab), an esteemed Independent Test Laboratory accredited by NABL (National Accreditation Board for Testing and Calibration Laboratories) as per the ISO/IEC 17025:2015 Standard, TEC (Telecommunication Engineering Centre), and Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS). We specialize in safety testing across various fields, including IT, Electrical & Electronics, drones, batteries, and more. Our comprehensive services cater to the testing requirements of small, medium, and large manufacturing enterprises.

With the emergence of Remotely Piloted Aircraft Systems (RPAS) in various industries, we are proud to offer specialized testing services in accordance with the QCI (Quality Council of India) RPAS notification and the Certification Scheme for Unmanned Aircraft Systems, as per the MOCA (Ministry of Civil Aviation) notification dated 26th January 2022.

At MR Lab, our state-of-the-art testing facility is fully equipped to handle the unique requirements of RPAS testing. We understand the critical aspects that determine the safety and reliability of drones, and our testing capabilities encompass a wide range of parameters.

Weight and dimensions play a crucial role in the performance of drones. We accurately measure and analyze the empty weight, weight without fuel/battery and payload, weight with integrated engine/battery but no fuel or payload, maximum all-up weight, and weight with maximum fuel/largest battery and compatible payloads. Additionally, we assess dimensions such as wing span and maximum diagonal length to ensure compliance with specified standards.

Battery performance and safety are of utmost importance in RPAS operations. Our comprehensive battery testing covers multiple aspects, including environmental testing, temperature and humidity variations, shock resistance, ingress protection, EMI/EMC (Electromagnetic Interference/Electromagnetic Compatibility) testing, and more. We verify and validate battery parameters such as cell temperatures, pressures, discharge rates, energy and power density, life cycle, and adherence to safety standards.

At MR Lab, we maintain stringent compliance with safety instruments and equipment for RPAS. Our experts ensure adequate source of electrical energy, proper wiring installation, suitable wiring for current and voltage, absence of kinks and sharp edges, secured connections, and compliance with minimum operating voltage and maximum operating current requirements.

Allow us to summarize the key differences in our testing capabilities as follows:

  • Weight and Dimensions:
  • Empty weight
  • Weight without fuel/battery and without payload
  • Weight with integrated engine/battery but no fuel or payload
  • Maximum all-up weight
  • Weight with maximum fuel/largest battery and with all compatible payloads (Fixed + Variable)
  • Dimensions: Wing Span / Max Diagonal Length

9.1 a) Battery Environmental Testing:

We analyze the effects of voltage spikes from the power source, considering peak voltage and current ranges of the electrical power supply onboard the UAS under various load conditions, including payloads, in different flight scenarios. Our design and technical analysis reports ensure the absence of voltage spikes from the power source.

9.1 c) Temperature and Humidity Variations:

We verify authenticated test reports, conforming to IS 9000 Part 2 & 3 or an equivalent standard, for temperature (-20 degrees C to 55 degrees C). For humidity, we verify authenticated test reports as per IS 9000 Part 4 or IEC 60068–2–78 or an equivalent standard, demonstrating 90% relative humidity at 40 degrees C.

9.1 d) Shock Resistance:

We provide test reports from accredited testing labs for shock resistance, adhering to IEC 60068-2-27 or equivalent standards.

9.1 e) Ingress Protection:

Our certification includes IP54 or IP65 based on the manufacturer's declaration.

9.2) EMI / EMC Test:

For susceptibility to HIRF (High-Intensity Radiated Fields), we offer test reports from accredited testing labs for Radiated Immunity, as per applicable parts and clauses of IEC 61000 / IS 14700 or equivalent standards.

3.2) Battery Safety Testing:

Our battery safety testing ensures safe cell temperatures and pressures during the charging/discharging cycle, absence of explosive or toxic gas emissions in normal operation, and no discharge of corrosive fluids that could damage the surroundings.

3.2.1) Battery Performance (Energy, Power, Capability) Testing:

We conduct rate of discharge testing for batteries (C-rate, cut-off conditions, Ah and Wh, energy and power density).

3.2.2) Battery Performance (Life Cycle) Testing:

Our life cycle testing evaluates battery performance up to 80% Depth of Discharge (DoD) in various atmospheric conditions corresponding to flying conditions of the drone (-20 degrees C, 55 degrees C, 90% RH at 40 degrees C).

Safety Instruments/Equipment:

We ensure compliance with all on-board electrical and electronic equipment regulations, including adequate source of electrical energy, proper wiring installation, suitable wiring for current and voltage, avoidance of kinks and sharp edges, secured connections, and adherence to minimum operating voltage and maximum operating current requirements.
